About
Ella Penn Exhibiting as part of Art Language location Exhibition 2013
"Art:Language:Location is an art exhibition that will take place in October 2013 in a variety of venues across Cambridge. The exhibition will feature work from emerging and established artists from Cambridge and across the UK who use text in their work.
Works will be located in a mixture of both established text-based spaces (e.g. bookshop, library, gallery) and in alternative urban sites, providing an extended, context-driven environment in which works can create a dialogue between language and location.
By choosing an extended exhibition over a single location, art:language:location aims to punctuate the town with a series of visually exciting and unexpected encounters in which our everyday interactions with text can be explored and challenged.
A:L:L is the second such event, following on from Text&Context in October 2012.

Oddments is an ongoing photographic project which explores the correlation between the public and the city’s streets, documenting the interactions left by people in these transitional spaces.

This location specific project explores my photographic observations of text taken over the course of a day in the city of Cambridge. The images selected intermingle both the found, and fragmented pieces of language that I encountered.
By collating these snapshots of image and text I hope to explore the relationship between the intentional and non-intentional placement of language within our environment.
